When you grow...your clothes should too

Monday, July 31, 2017

     Hi followers,

I recently was thinking how there are so many girls out there, who claim to be Christians, but yet have no real guidelines on clothing.  Sadly, modesty has really been forgotten, in this day and age.  There are many times when I've thought a dress to be my size...when really it wasn't.  The problem is that most girls these days just about stay the same size their entire life.  Well, the tag's number's not the same, but the length is.

Here is an image to illustrate:

The lengths are just about the same.  This shouldn't be happening!  We as Christian girls should be striving to live pure and holy lives in Jesus Christ.  When we grow...our clothes should too.  I'm NOT saying we all have to wear floor length dresses...but I AM saying that we need to be buying our dresses carefully and not just what might be cute or in style.

1 Timothy 2:9 - I also want the women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety...

Thanks so much for reading!!  I hope this some how encouraged you!

  1. Amen to that! Our styles should reflect our age, similar to how some historical cultures are :) Longer skirt lengths were looked for eagerly, as they signified growing up. I think we should bring back that feeling.

    1. You are very right, Catherine!! Years ago, long skirts were looked upon as beautiful and something that made a woman feminine. I wish girls would still look upon skirts the same way!

  4. You are so right Lilly!!
My friend just posted a picture on her blog just a couple days ago and this is what it said, "Your dress should be tight enough to show you are a woman but lose enough you are a lady." I thought I should share that with you bc it's crazy how far (bad) clothing has become and girls wear it without even thinking....

    1. I saw that picture too! Our dresses can be feminine, being cute and pretty at the same time.

  5. GREAT POINT!!! While I have been up here in Ohio, it's been interesting, because I'm in neighborhoods and small towns. It's either Mennonite or Amish clothes, or immodest clothes about 85% of the time. I remember seeing one girl playing basketball with her boyfriend I'm guessing, wearing shorts so tight and short they looked like underwear. I try to keep my skirts knee length or longer, and I wear my shorts just above the knee, but not showing thigh. I really like best to wear skirts because I feel more feminine and pretty, but when I do wear shorts, I try to wear a shirt or short dress that will cover longer than a tee shirt. Yes, I have my days when I wear jeans and a tee shirt, but mostly when I'm working with my horses. I just like to be visibly different.

    1. Oh dear!! Sometimes I can't believe girls actually wear stuff that short!!

I wear a lot of skirts but find myself wearing long shorts more in this hot weather! Most of my shorts go to my knee when going out of the house while I wear shorter only for running and sleep. :)

Also, your outfit for B.M.'s Virtual Modest Fashion Show was SUPER cute!!

  6. Oh how true! Sometimes just walking, well, yesterday for example... my siblings and I were in a small boardwalk type area in our city to get ice cream and a woman was wearing an incredibly tight dress that was short and, I might add, ugly... O_O I was wearing a skirt and a shirt that was actually sleeveless (Not strappy or anything, lots more than that!) and I thought how sad that lady must be.
Anyhow, this was an amazing post, Lilly!! Thank you so much for standing up for modesty!

    1. Yeah. A lot of ladies feel they have to wear certain clothes but really...it's not going to make them happy and get the love they desire. I think most girls dress immodestly to get attention; they don't realize that they are already loved and adored by Jesus!!

    1. Hi Emma! Well, I personally wear some knee length dresses. The important thing to ask yourself when buying an outfit is: Is it revealing or draw attention to my body?

It really depends on what you feel the Lord convicts you about.

    2. If the dress covers the knee I think it is totally fine. Just be careful, will my skirt come up over my thigh and reveal all that skin? When I bend over will it show 75% percent of my leg? If you like a dress it's too short, and you have basic sewing skills, you can sew lace to the bottom to add length, Joanns has some great lace for that. I do it to skirts all the time. Or you can always put it over leggings or skinny jeans. A denim dress over black skinny jeans is ADORABLE!!! Just remember that the Bible doesn't give an exact skirt length, but it does call us to be modest. Does your outfit draw attention to your face, or does it call attention to your body? Does it call attention to your testimony, or your earthly beauty?
