Writing Contest // Snow White

Friday, June 2, 2017
    Hey followers,

I have something really really exciting to share with you!!

Five Poisoned Apples is the fourth (and final) Rooglewood fairytale retelling contest, in which hundreds of writers will be writing like crazy to get their tale in this gorgeous book. You're given seven months to write your retelling of Snow White.  The contest started yesterday and your novella must be sent in by the last day of December (though your form has to be sent in earlier) to Rooglewood Press publishing house.  Finally, on April 2, 2018, the five stories that won will be announced and published into the Five Poisoned Apples!!

For all the details click HERE

So...what do you think of the gorgeous cover?  Are you going to enter the contest??

  1. Lily, are you gonna enter? I don't think I will; I am too busy with the Bible Bee, school, and bands to take time. Plus, writing kinda stopped for me since I have no more ideas currently.
Thanks for the post. Wouldn't it be cool if one of the blog readers win? That would be fabulous!!!

  7. That sound interesting! I've never heard of it before. I have a random question... know at the top of the page, where it says your website address? How do you get a little picture there? Like you have a pink flower.. I see lots of bloggers with them, but I can't figure out how to get one, mine just shows a B for Blogger.

Yes. If you go to "Layout" at blogger.com, you should see something that says "Favicon". Upload a small, square image there and that should do it for you!! :)

Let me know if you have anymore questions.

  10. Oh, it looks like such a fun project... I have no idea if I could. I can write like the wind if I have the inspiration. I have two concerns:
    1. I don't know if I have time, I want to publish my own book soon, and this would take over my writing time.
    2. I have no idea what the other novella's are going to look like, because if they are trashy, too mystical and just junky, I'm not sure I want my name on it...
I'm going to take a close look at the other books that have been put together, and if this something I think I should invest time in, then I might give it a shot. Is it going to be five are going to be picked? Or have four been picked already? Well, while I think about it, I'm going to be spinning a tale in my mind. Maybe one day the story will grace the pages in a dance of ink. ;)

    1. Oh...I didn't think about my name being on a book with other trashy books. That could be a problem... :/

All 5 of the stories will be chosen. There aren't any picked yet. :)

  11. Yes, I did some research today on the other books written and the history of Snow White. The other three books look well received by the reviews on Amazon, the worst only being a three star review on Beauty and the Beast. I will say, that the Five Magic Spindles looks really weird with stories of ghosts and one about a spirit being trapped in a girl's body. *O* I also looked up the back story of Snow White. The original story isn't too different from the one I've grown up with in the story books, but the story is a little bit more disgusting in the original (I've heard that most of Brother Grimm's stories can be more nasty than the modern versions). I also looked at some reviews of the animated movie, and some people were not pleased by the mild occult references with the magic mirror. This may or may not be included in the other stories, and I would say that this would just be a matter of conviction. I (though I love Lewis and Tolkien) am a little squeamish with fantasy, especially the type we find so commonly in even Disney films. Think, the evil face that comes to the evil queen's mirror: What is it and where did it come from? (My guess is a dark spirit of some sort.) On the positive side, they said that with the poison apple and the prince to the rescue, that it has symbolism to Christianity. I'm probably not going to try out for this because I don't have a ton of time for it, and I wouldn't want my name out with the rest of the books, not knowing what they contained. The book is supposed to be for readers around 12 years, but seeing as Harry Potter is for children, that doesn't comfort me much. I'm sad because if looks so fun and the cover is dazzling!!! Plus there is a $10 fee with the entry, so I'm likely not going to do it, because chances are I'm not going to be picked, and I would therefore loose my money... Sorry for the long comment, I just thought since I went back and looked it all up, it might give some food for thought to anybody else who might still be thinking about it. If I had a lot of time and money, I might think differently, but still, I'm not certain I want to be associated with the other books, especially Five Magic Spindles.

    1. Thanks for doing all that research, Erica. You've given me a lot to think about...

  12. Thanks soo much to bring it up I would probably do it if the $10 dolor fee wasn't there...
Because I'm not a good writer so I would probably not get picked to be in the top 100!!!!
But thanks for posting it, it is very tempting
